What is Sunshine Bloggers Award?

It is an award given by the bloggers to newer bloggers to increase awareness and show our support. With more and more bloggers coming up everyday, this award makes sure that new, talented and deserving blogs, receive as much recognition and support as is possible.

A big huge thank you to TheTrippyVoyager for nominating Dreadlock Wanderlust for this awesome award. Make sure to check out the blog and see what she’s up to!

Here are my answers to the questions given:

  1. Which place is on the number 1 of your bucket list and why?

At this very moment I would have to say South East Asia. My next big wanderlust adventure is going to be next year hopefully. I plan to country hop in that part of the globe. Indonesia is at the top of my list.

  2. How many different cultures have you experienced up until now and which one do you love the most?

I have experienced over 18 cultures. It is hard to say which culture I love the most. I cannot answer that but what I can say is that there is one culture I have experienced thus far through my travels that has stood out the most. The culture that hails from the Caucasus Region in a very special country called the Republic of Georgia or in their language Saqartvelo. I lived there back in 2010 for 6 months and it was quite the experience. There culture is preserved and unspoiled due to decades of isolation but of course they do have a lot to learn.

  3. What is your 1 life mantra that you think would be helpful to anyone?

There is no formula to life. No set list of items you need to cross off or accomplish within a certain time frame, and if anyone tells you otherwise they have been conditioned by society. Do what makes your heart sing. If that means forgoing college to travel the world first then do it! But always be true to you and live your life in the way that makes you happy.

  4. Have you had any weird animal experiences? If yes, what was it?

No I cannot say that I have. Though once in Puerto Rico my friends and I were accosted by some very beautiful parrots. Out of it came hilarious photos of 3 drunk women from the Bahamas looking as if they were being mauled by tropical birds.

  5. What is the most amazing thing you have seen while travelling?

Outside of the diverse and breathtakingly beautiful views of nature on this planet I would have to say Gaudi’s La Sagrada Famillia in Barcelona. I am not a religious person, however that stunning work of a Cathedral is breathe taking. Still under construction today, I first saw in back in 2006 and I was absolutely blown away.

  6. If you ever have to settle outside of your home-country, where would it be?

Well currently I am living in France, and I am originally from The Bahamas. So I guess France but I am not sure that this will be the place I “settle”. I have the heart of a nomad and wandering is in my blood. It has been 2 years and already I am itching to move but I’m not answering that call just yet.

  7. What are your top tips to any new traveler?

Have a plan. You do not have to have every detail planned out but you should have a skeleton of a plan. Record everything, take all the photos but remember to live in the moment and enjoy your surroundings. Immerse yourself in the culture and try to go to local haunts and not just the tourist traps. Learn a bit of the language. Try all the food. Set aside moments in your day to reflect. Keep a travel journal. Remember to be respectful.

  8. What kind of a traveler are you?

The kind that thirst for adventure. Wanderlust is quite strong and like I said before I have the heart of a nomad. I love to consume a place slowly. Culture and history are my favorite things to discover along with monuments and notable places with historical importance. Is there a specific list of types? Not sure how to answer this.

  9. If you had 1,000 (in your currency), how would you spend it?

Well with 1,000 euros I would purchase an Around the World style ticket to the top 5 countries I would like to visit in Asia from Paris. So that would include: Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, Singapore and India.

  10. Why do you like to travel?

Because I am never satisfied with just one section of the globe. I am curious by nature and I want to discover, uncover and experience new places. I can’t help it. By the definition of my astrological natal chart it would be because I am a Rising Sagittarius. Freedom is above all what I treasure most about life and travel is freedom.
